A black and white studio in Stockholm

This sweet little studio is currently for sale in Stockholm, Sweden.  I love the raised bedroom platform and the wallpaper within, the simple white kitchen, the black and white stripes and the painted chalkboard panel.

Scandinavian Design Center

A much anticipated package arrived at my office yesterday... my first order from the Scandinavian Design Center.

Before I even got to what was inside, I was captivated by the packaging.  I bought items from three different designers, but the packaging is all based on a similar, simple yet effective, design theme: white boxes with black (and grey) typography.  There are no bright colours shouting “look at me” here.  I love Scandinavian design.

You can see in the image above that I bought a Normann Copenhagen “Norm 06” pendant lamp shade in medium.

The other boxes contain a mix-and-match set of Muuto’s “The Dots” coat hooks.

And “Fashion” wall stickers from Ferm Living.

The total cost was $336, including shipping.  The combined retail price of these three items in Australia is $580, so that’s an overall saving of 42%.

A photographer's loft in Bologna

This loft in Bologna is the very stylish home of photographer Max Zambelli.

My favourite room is the living room.  The black feature wall with propped black and white photography prints, the wall of white curtains, the wall lamp and the mix of furniture.

I dream of an island bench with a cooktop and a pantry as huge as this one.

I love the polished concrete floors and the recessed shower head in the bathroom.  It is a perfectly moody, relaxing space.

And an indoor pool... right next to the Jag.

Glamorous black and white apartment in Oslo

There are many things I love about this apartment for sale in Oslo, Norway: the glossy black floors contrasted with vivid white walls, the little hits of colour and the huge poster of a 1964 Playboy magazine cover hanging in the living room.

The artwork on the wall in the kitchen / breakfast nook also reminds me very much of this painting in my bedroom.

Kate Spade dresses

I love the Kate Spade brand.  It is a brand with great energy, wit and whimsy.  I currently own a couple of Kate Spade handbags (in sensible colours with fun fabric linings), a pair of purple patent shoes and a giant red heart ring.  I think it’s time I tried a piece of Kate Spade clothing.

I like my base wardrobe to be in black and white, on top of which I can add colour with accessories: shoes, handbags, scarves, belts and jewellery.  Any of these dresses from Kate Spade’s current collection would fit in perfectly with that theme.

I think I will settle on the Solid Lola Dress for now.  See it dressed up with red in the image below.

Now to figure out which size to order (the most difficult thing when trying a brand for the first time and buying online).

A black and white home in Helsingborg

I love the use of black and white in this home in Sweden’s Helsingborg.  The couple that live here have incorporated little splashes of colour and Asian and Moroccan influences to add interest to their home.  I love the framed black butterfly silhouettes and the Chinese wedding chest.
