A sunny Saturday

How was your Saturday?  It was a lovely sunny day in Sydney.  Harry and I took a stroll to the new Adriano Zumbo cafe location for a takeaway breakfast of coffee and toasted banana bread with passionfruit butter.

We took our breakfast to the Balmain shoreline where we ended up sitting for a couple of hours chatting.  We strolled through Rozelle markets, where I bought three more vintage sewing patterns (I must learn to sew if I am going to keep doing this), then stopped at Cordelia’s Cafe for the best BLAT toasted sandwich in the village.

We continued down Darling Street stopping at some of my favourite shops.  I found a gorgeous vintage Singer sewing stool at quintessential duckeggBLUE, but it was already sold.
The only downside was that in the five hours we were out I managed to get a very sunburnt face.  I guess I didn’t think of sunscreen because it’s still Winter.  I was wearing my rather large Roberto Cavalli sunglasses, so I now look like Kim Kardashian in this picture:

I am staying out of the sun today.

Perfect little apartment in Stockholm

I adore everything about this little apartment for sale in Stockholm, Sweden.  I could definitely move right in.

This is exactly my style – the perfect combination of black, white, grey and timber, with little splashes of colour and ornate details.

Here is a close-up of the chevron timber flooring in the bedroom.  I love it!

And how sweet is this little balcony?

Lulu Guinness' Victorian terrace

I adore Lulu Guinness’ feminine and fun handbags and accessories designs.  I share her love of the contrast of black and white, punctuated with splashes of bright colour and of silhouettes.

This design aesthetic carries through to her glamorous Victorian terrace in London’s Notting Hill.

I love the wallhanging in her living room, designed by Lulu for The Rug Company.  Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be available anymore.

See the full home tour on Living Etc.

Here are my favourite items from Lulu’s new Autumn/Winter 2010 collection, available from her online store.

Resource Furniture

Living in a house that is only 4.2 metres wide, I have to be very smart with how we use every inch of space and I am always impressed by good space-saving ideas.

I came across this great range of European space-saving furniture last week via a link sent to me by my boyfriend.  It is available from Resource Furniture in the US.  So far I haven’t had any luck finding a stockist here in Australia.

My favourite is the Giravolta.  It’s a sideboard that transforms into a dining table and it looks great too.  It would be perfect for our combined kitchen/dining area.  We could have it pushed up against a wall for the two of us and move it into the middle of the room when we have guests.

I also love the Lollibook (below).  The entire cabinet is only 30cm deep when the bed is tucked away.  I think this would make a great spare bed in a child’s room for sleepovers.

See the range in action on this youtube video.

Home office inspiration

My home office looks like a disaster zone at the moment.  We have all our bathroom fittings (toilet, sink, cabinet, etc.) stacked up in boxes and my desk is piled so high with books and paper that I am using my laptop table instead.

I have grand plans for this room when we get around to renovating it, but for now I am dreaming of an inspirational and organised home office space.

It will have a huge moodboard for me and floor-to-ceiling curtains to cover my shoe cupboard (it is the first room inside the front door, so it will be easier to store my shoes here than in the bedroom upstairs).

Lots of white with black accents for my side of the room.

And a black (or charcoal grey) feature wall for Harry’s side of the room.

Lots of matching folders for storing all my paperwork and magazine cut-outs.

And a cluster of prints and photographs.

Here is the basic floor plan.

I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do with the large empty space in the middle yet.  Maybe a rug and a comfy reading chair.

Anthropologie - An August homecoming

Anthropologie’s August 2010 catalogue is out, with lots of colour and ruffles coming in for the new season.

I love the vintage styling of the images.  Here are my favourite shots and outfits from the catalogue.
