Spherical pendant lights

We had a new window installed in the upstairs room over the weekend.  We are also having a bench seat built-in underneath it.  We will be painting the room on Boxing Day.  Then all we need is carpet, a balustrade and a wardrobe.  Yay!  I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We also need to pick lights for the upstairs room.  I had decided on Florence Broadhurst ‘Japanese Floral’ drum pendants to hang above the bedside tables, but due to the slanted ceiling there is not enough height on my side of the bed to suspend such a light.  We have instead decided to install one big light above the middle of the bed (and maybe add some bedside lamps or reading lights later).

I am thinking something spherical and quite large might look nice.  The following are my favourite finds so far.  What do you think of them?

Above:  David Trubridge ‘Floral’ light (see www.davidtrubridge.com)

Above:  Moooi ‘Random’ light (see www.moooi.com)

Above:  Studio Italia ‘Genie’ light (see www.studioitalia.com.au)

All of these are a little pricey, so I may have to go searching for something similar instead.

Christmas wish list

Here’s something a little different, completely unrelated to our home renovation.

Whilst browsing for Christmas gift ideas (I know I’ve left it a little late with only two and a bit weeks to go), I started compiling a wish list of my own.  I have included both a ‘luxe’ (read: I’m dreaming) and ‘less’ option for each item.

I am loving the combination of pearls and black lace at the moment, so these necklaces were first on my list.  I have ordered the Betsey Johnson one (perhaps a Christmas present for myself).

Left: LANVIN glass-pearl necklace US$840 (on sale from $1,200) from Net-A-Porter
Right: BETSEY JOHNSON tulle trim pearl necklace US$48 from Nordstrom

Next is a funky little purse, because my everyday wallet takes up too much space in my small evening/party bags.

Left: LOUIS VUITTON Monogram Vernis Ludlow wallet US$390
Right: KATE SPADE Big Apple Darla wallet US$55

Next is a big purple handbag, simply because I have been wanting one for ages.

Left: VERSACE eelskin shopper US$1,579.90 (on sale from $2,645) from Nordstrom
Right: MARC BY MARC JACOBS Croc of Q hobo US$278 from Nordstrom

And finally, a diamond (or diamante) bow ring.

Left: TIFFANY bow ring with diamonds in platinum AU$2,500
Right: JUICY COUTURE pavé bow ring US$42

My first purchase from Etsy

Etsy is the place to buy and sell all things handmade.  Yesterday I made my first purchase; three prints from seller ‘theloveshop’.

I’ve ordered the white letter in ‘M’ (for Melinda) and the black letter in ‘H’ (for Harry) to possibly hang above our bed.

I also bought the ‘do what you love’ print (which featured previously, in my ‘un-boring walls’ post) to hang in our study.

After floor plan

Following on from my last post, this is our planned (after renovation) floor plan for the house.  You can click on the image to zoom in and read my descriptions.

Left is the ground level floor plan, from front to back:
  • Home office or study
  • Games/Music room or informal living room
  • Living room (opening onto enclosed courtyard)
  • Bathroom and laundry (built-in behind cabinetry opposite the bathroom)
  • Kitchen and dining room
Right is the upstairs floor plan.  This will be our bedroom.
